In the Fall of 2000 the group who became the core of Schutzhund Village and RSPC met at a seminar Armin did in Pennsylvania.  We found a lot of common ground.  Each of us had a young dog just starting foundation work.  Each of us sought to train in an enlightened, motivational, behaviorally-oriented style.  And each of us was willing to make the commitment to do the work, and, particularly in the beginning, travel long distances to meet regularly to train.

By February 2007, we had earned over 38 new titles on our dogs, and many more repeats.  In addition, six of our teams, Leiko and Kelly, Riot and Kathy, Arnot and Ron, James and Chief, Armin and Akira, and Fiona and Cara earned membership in the Schutzhund Village Schutzhund III Club.  Two of our original teams, Kathy and Riot, Ron and Arnot, have successfully competed in regional and national championships at the SchH III level.

The Schutzhund Village Training Director's Award is awarded to each HOT team trained at Schutzhund Village when they earn their first working title.  Conceived by Chuck and Ron, the award is in memory of Wasko vom Küchenhorn SchH 3 FH.  There is a wall plaque with the names of each team which remains here at Newstead.  Each winner receives a plaque which commemorates the event at which the team earned their first working title.

Teams who have earned the award are:

The Schutzhund Village Perpetual Trophy goes to the high scoring handler owner trained team in each Schutzhund Village hosted trial.  Conceived and designed by Kathy and Armin, the trophy is in memory of VA Lars von Wilhendorf SchH III FH, who in many ways motivated the creation of Schutzhund Village.  The trophy itself is surmounted by a figure of a German Shepherd, surrounded by the figures of a Doberman, Schnauzer, Rottweiler, and Malinois.  The four sides of the base have a dedication plaque and three pictures of Lars.  Below these panels are plaques to be engraved with the names of the winners.  The trophy remains here at Newstead.  Each winner receives a plaque which commemorates the event at which he or she received the trophy.

In 2003 our puppies had grown up, and we steeled our nerves and went from the practice field to the trial field to find out whether our training worked.  At trials in Pittsburgh and Palmyra we earned 5 new titles, and two repeat titles on dogs who joined our group more advanced in their training. Between the two trials we earned five "V" scores in tracking.  In addition, SV judges Rudiger Mai and Helmut Rueppell both complimented us on the attitude our dogs showed in obedience, and the power they showed in protection.  We finished the year with the assurance that our dogs and Armin's training methods both worked.
